I haven't seen one of these yet. I was thinking that some of our gardening/horticulturists might appreciate a hearty seed exchange thread. I for one am always looking for certain seeds to start growing a new plant.
If anyone wants to try this I would really love to trade for a green coffee bean (or 6). I have about 30 pounds of sweet gum in my front yard (pesky little thing).
On a more serious note I have some PawPaw seeds (a more weather hearty fruit tree that bears fruit that taste similar to banana). I think I have some mosa bamboo seeds still laying around. I also have my normal garden fair, pole beans, peas, etc.
If you post it I might be able to track it down!
Be cautious. Mailing seeds can be illegal depending on the seed and where it is being mailed to/from.

Well let us keep this confined to domestic, inter-USA exchange.
The things that I have mentioned are all commonly sold and shipped in the USA.
It is good that you bring that up though. It gets tricky when you start talking about international exchange.
There are some plants the government gets a bit feisty about.

Other seeds high on my current list are
Olive (Europea) seed
Sugar Cane - A cutting would probably be better
Any unusual grape variety -- Non-concord, more like riesling, chardonnay etc.
Any dwarf fruit tree -- Lime, Apple, Pear, etc. Mainly because I live in a cold region I need portability, but then...with good pruning it will be a dwarf no matter what variety...

all dwarf fruit trees are grafted, a seed isn't going to do you any good, (also as well hybrid fruits don't grow true from seed)

Yea, I read the part about dwarfs a little later.
Too bad about the hybrids. I guess I will be wanting a graft of them then.
For "dwarfing" though, I think any regular variety maintained in a pot would be sufficient. With adequate pruning and root maintenance it can be kept in a dwarf-like state.

Here's one forum for exchanging/trading seeds.

Free registration. Usually you trade with a person but sometimes all they want is a SASE or SASBE (Self Addressed Stamped Bubble Mailer for larger seeds).

I really wanted to do it on this forum. My idea was to foster a sense of community, generate conversation/interest, and point to an important part of long-term survival which is having a renewable supply of various edibles.
Also keeping a "seed bank" ready in case madness happens you can re-establish yourself and a portion of your food supply if you have a ready stock of seeds to fall back on.
If I was really that concerned about the seeds/varieties I mentioned I would just buy them outright, but then that would defeat the purpose of this extremely fun exercise.
