Just saw on the news some examples of communities that are re newing an old idea about community based currency. It is completely legal, does not violate any federal laws. The examples I am attaching are from a community in North Carolina and another in Mass. Looks like almost anything is possible if a community pulls together. By the way, the one in NC is , or will shortly backed by a bank.

Yep - we had a little discussion on it recently. Can't make coins, and can't use across state lines, but it has gained some popularity. Wonder if they'l bring back S&H Green Stamps?

Now, do they give change in coins? Say you buy a 99 cent item which, with the Mass Sales tax will come to $1.04 --- if you pay with 2 Berkshares, and the change is in coins, you'll save much more than the 10%.
