View Full Version : Of The Human Spirit
Watched something incredible on U-Tube. A dowdy Scottish woman went on the show, "Britain's Got Talent." The judges (Simon Cowel, et al) pretty much panned her - until she opened her mouth to sing...

Was a good slice of humble pie for the judges and the audience too. I think they realized it also from what they said and the look on their faces.

And good looking :)
Scotland....Australia....yeah, same place. (It seems the talented and handsome blokes are short on geography):innocent:
But yeah, she was pretty danged good. I saw her on the news the other night. I love it when the under dog wins.

And they put up another of her recordings. Most excellent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8r9lRJ6yHY
Thanks, Pal. She reminds me so much of the great tunes of the '40s and '50s. I could listen to her all day. Nice post.

So true, back when the voice was real and not a product of electronics. And the Big Bands,, nothing can touch them today.

So after all the forced intros and BS you still don't get it eh?:splat:
I am Scottish.
I moved to Australia 10 yrs ago.
That is why I feel I can comment on things Scottish and things Australian.
OK with you now Rick?:6:
Well you can comment on anything you wish. Call yourself anything you wish. Live anywhere you wish. You can even smear blue paint on your face if you wish. But an Aussie Scotsman? I don't know if the world can handle that. "There's no ane o them to mend anither.":innocent:

I was going to say maybe I'm ahead of my time but I can't as there's loads of Scots here.
All got sick of the rain and went in search of the sun!!
Can't confess to eating Haggis or Roo as I'm a veggie.
What!! Not just an Aussie Scotsman but a veggie Aussie Scotsman.
Can the world cope?
(head slap). What's next? A veggie Aussie Scotsman with a cause?!

and she did it again. As they said in the article, she is not a "one trick pony"

This is bizarre! I have listened to these two songs, "I Dreamed a Dream," and "Cry Me a River," multiple times and I don't seem to get tired of them. Usually, once or at the most twice, listening to a song, and I'm done.
This woman is the original ugly duckling. I can't get upset with the audience for thinking it was going to be a flop. Those eyebrows and the red face and double chin. Looks like someone smacked her in the face with an ugly stick and enjoyed it so much - they did it again. Even her voice, when she talks, is a series of squawks and grunts. I'd have an easier time believing this was all a lip syncing hoax than to believe she would produce a beautiful song, but when she opens her mouth, and the music comes forth, she turns into a beautiful swan.
I listened to both the songs - sung by other artists - among them people like Barbara Streisand and Crystal Gayle. Amazingly, their renditions lacked something compared to Susan Boyle's. Her versions seem to have "heart" or "soul" or something which the others don't quite capture. When Crystal Gayle or Barbara Streisand sings, I hear their song and I enjoy it, but when Susan Boyle sings, I feel her feelings. It is truly a gift, and if she puts out a CD, I'll be glad to plunk down my coin.
I just hope the people who are ready to "package" her have the common sense not to try and teach her how to sing. God knows - she can already do that without their help.

Nice to see talent rise above the entertainment industry.
