DOGMAN

I just spent the past several days guiding a group of kids (9th graders) from Seattle on a winter camping/dogsledding/snowshoe/Yellowstone Park Tour extravaganza, and it was awesome.
For three days these kids, from a privalaged upbringing, ate elk and deer, camped in temperatures into the low teens, played in the snow, learned about wolves, learned primitive skills, and basically just froze their buns off- AND NEVER COMPLAINED!
I was a little nervous about the group, because I knew they were all wealthy, urban kids from a private school that were addicted to their cell phones, I-pods, email, etc... and most of them had very little camping experience. I thought I was going to have my hands full with 12, high maintence whiners. It was unbelievable, these kids were open-minded and ready to get dirty and cold. And never once acted like they'd rather be back in the city!
I know have a new hope for the future of our society. There are still some cool kids out there!
