Welp, I'm finally quitting, drinking soda that is. I've been drinking about a litre of cola every day for 3-5 years. I figure quitting this and exercising I should be able to lose a pound a week. I never new how much I needed my caffeine. I can't imagine stopping drugs/alcohol (or vanilla creamer.) Let's just hope I can keep my resolve up, and get into shape (Other that round that is).:innocent:

Matthew, did you get to keep all those bottle deposit returns?

I'm glad you quit. All those empty calories :pepsi:were killing you. :death: Just think - in a few years, you'll finally be able to enjoy the one perfect beveridge. BEER! :drunk:

I have heard that to quit an addiction many people resort to replacing it with another.

I would suggest smoking cigarettes, because the nicotine will get you through those tough caffeine withdrawals. You will have a convenient outlet for your jittery hands, and the puffing action will be an adequate substitute for the ingrained reflex response of "sipping up" whenever you just need to relax.

And for anyone of you that actually took that serious, I will disclaim the post as humour -- lighten up, geez. Sheesh, now I need a smoke.

Good luck. I gave up all caffeine in 2000. Was hard for a couple of weeks, but glad I did. Don't smoke, I never have, it's a disgusting habit.

First day without my morning 16oz... I've got a headache, I'm grouchy and irritable. Oh wait, that's normal! I'll keep you informed on how it goes... -mumble grumble gripe-:smash:

Pull your shoe off. Pull your sock off. With your other shoe stomp your bare toe really hard. The pain in your toe will make you forget about your desire for caffeine. It works even better if you ask a friend to help. I think it has some psychological lift knowing a friend is helping. Hope that helps.

I hope you succeed. I'll only quit if all the caffeine producing plants in the world suddenly went extinct. Coffee, tea, cola- I'm drinking one or the other daylight to dark.

This is so true, in fact I bet Rick would be willing to be that helpful friend! Then, when you whack him really hard on his bare toe, you'll be so busy rolling around laughing at him writhing on the floor, you'll forget all about your desire for caffeine or sugar or whatever. You are so selfless Rick, God bless.

As for me, I'm so glad I'm not addicted to anything! Now, if you'll excuse me I'm going to slip out for a cigarette and a small handful of these dried mushrooms I like to keep handy to munch on.

You are going to lose so much weight. Both reg. and diet sodas cause obesity.

Good luck.

I on the other hand have my own struggle. Coffee. Yes, I stopped drinking my 4 / 5 cups a day about 3 weeks ago. It's tea, tea, and more tea. I will pop a top on a Coke every now and then, but that is alot less caffene than coffee.

As my dear mother told me the other day when I was at her house for dinner, as she was trying to get me to eat a third serving of food, "Everything is okay in moderation."

Man, in high school I drank 1-2 L of Mt. Dew a day. I decided to quit cold one day and lost 10 lbs rapid fire.
