View Full Version : Edamame
My wife prepared a vegetable tonight that I had never heard of. As the title implies, it's called Edamame. In short, Edamame is a green soybean that is picked before it ripens. Apparently, it is packed with protein. If a soybean doesn't conjure up an image then think pea pod. About the same size. There was no flavor but the seeds did have a bit of a light crunch. Highly nutritious. For those of you that might be vegans, here's another source of protein. She steamed them and added a touch of sea salt.
She bought them at Costco and they are 100% organic.
Here's some more information on them:

Edamame, good stuff. I get them at Kroger. Im sure other places have them as well. I prefer to steam them and generously coat them in sea salt. No flavor? the Flavor isn't intense, but there is what I think of as a sweet almost pea flavor. I suppose like anything else individual results may vary. Now I want some.
Soybean bushes are decent producers. I wonder how successful you would be growing some plants in the garden. I would think you could shell them like peas then can them or eat them like peas. Anything that good for you deserves a place in the garden if they will grow.
EDIT: Seeds are available for the garden.
