Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=fox+chase,+philadelphia,+pa&sll=40.017229,-75.088634&sspn=0.149873,0.263672&ie=UTF8&ll=40.085295,-75.084772&spn=0.037431,0.098534&z=14). Educated in Lock Haven, PA (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=lock+haven,+pa&sll=40.085295,-75.084772&sspn=0.037431,0.098534&ie=UTF8&ll=41.138072,-77.44915&spn=0.070588,0.131836&z=13&iwloc=addr). Currently make my living in Law Enforcement/Communications. Avid hiker and outdoors type of person. I'm specifically interested in post-NBC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weapons_of_mass_destruction) survival. My wife thinks I'm crazy and doesn't understand the gas masks, water and canned food in the basement.

And as per this thread's title, I believe no matter who you are, what sort of training you have or any other circumstances, if you have the will to live, a "survival" state of mind, you will be successful in your endeavor.

Welcome to the Forums. It's great to have you with us! Pay no attention to the Super Moderator, Rick. His wife sends every member a check each month to ensure that we will all be nice to him. :innocent: You can expect your check to arrive in the mail sometime around the 5th. of the month. Spend it in good health.

Welcome. "If you have the will to live", that will help a lot, but you still need to have some basic skills knowledge.

Welcome, WM, so give us an idea about your age, marital status, skills, etc..

Ken, are you sure about Rick sending that check out? I've never got one in the mail from him, just a bill for a truck-load of Twinkies!:innocent::whistling::creepy::cool2:

WildernessMike, if you want to stay on Rick's good side just wave a Twinkie under his nose!

I'm reluctant to give out more information than what is needed. I've already put too much out there as it is, to be honest.

I get hesitant in this age of technology where anonymity is no longer a luxury and has to be actively guarded.

However, since I am a guest on this board, I'll answer but would like to remain broad.

1) Age: Not a kid, but far from retiring.
2) Marital status can be ascertained in 1st post.
3) Skills: That's a very broad question. Can you narrow that one down a little?

WildernessMike - I believe he means what kind of wilderness experience you have. As you say, people are oft times reluctant to share too much - and probably with good reason. A general idea of wilderness experience helps others when recieving or giving adivice.

Fair enough. If one were to read this (http://www.wilderness-survival.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6121) thread, and open up the link (http://gallimaufree.wordpress.com/2009/03/02/bugging-in/), I'd put myself at level "3. Informed" on the verge of level 4. I'm a student of life always looking for more info and how to do things quicker, smarter, more efficient, etcetera.

I checked out the link but I didn't get all that much from it. The reason i asked is that any advice you might hope to gain will be contingent on certain facts. Are you child or an adult. (You answered that.) Will you be Solo, with family, or just a group of people, some maybe related to you , some not.
What geographical area is being referred to, & in what country. (We have international members here.)

We so not need your date of birth, complete home address, Social Security #, Birthmarks, Credit card info, & so on. Just the info that can help us help you & nothing more. I don't blame you at all for being cautious. Lots of Zombies out there!:cool2:

Yep. It arrived late, but it arrived. Cleared the bank, too. I can understand the delay with the check. Poor lady must have to write thousands of them every month.........

I don't know if you've read the book, but, I think you would find "Deep Survival - Who Lives, Who Dies, And Why" very interesting.
