Here's a pretty good resource on Dutch Oven Cooking including preparations and recipes. http://www.usscouts.org/cooking/cook_05.asp

Nice link. Here's another one http://idos.com/ and they have a ton of recipes on the forum. Nice people too, reminds me of the folks around here. :)

Some of the best food can be cooked slow roasted in a dutch oven.

Like say... pot roast. What more does a man need? A woman, and more pot roast.

I just bought my wife and myself a cast iron dutch oven and a tripod for outdoor cooking this week. I can't wait to build a fire and fix a pot of vegetable beef soup or beef stew over an open fire.

Pot roast, a woman, more pot roast and bacon.

Great links guys, I have been wanting a dutch oven for awhile but I don't know squat about how to use one, so I've held off. Hopefully I can get to learning.

BTW does anyone use Texsport dutch ovens? I saw a bunch at a surplus store for a good buy, they seem like no frills basic ones but I figure how "nice" does a hunk of cast iron have to be?

The better the cast iron, the better it cooks, IMHO. The real key is to learn how to season the cast iron and how to clean it. If you get those two items down then you are on your way to some truly gourmet, non-stick cookware.

I have a cast iron one now (Lodge) but remember using a thick walled aluminum one in the Boy Scouts.
