There hasn't been a lot of news covering this yet, and I don't know if it will get any traction, but it is worth keeping an eye on.
U.S. Representative Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) recently sponsored H.R. 45, also known as "Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act." The bill is, at its core and as its name implies, a licensing and registration scheme.
The measure calls for all handgun owners to submit to the federal government an application that shall include, among many other things: a photo; an address; a thumbprint; a completed, written firearm safety test; private mental health records; and a fee. And those are only some of the requirements to be licensed!
The bill would further require the attorney general to establish a database of every handgun sale, transfer, and owner's address in America. Moreover, the bill would make it illegal to own or possess a "qualifying firearm" -- defined as "any handgun; or any semiautomatic firearm that can accept any detachable ammunition feeding device…" [emphasis added] without one of the proposed licenses. There are other, more draconian measures in this bill. Bobby Rush, former member of the Black Panthers, and having served time for .... of all things - weapons charges. Yep, one to keep an eye on.

Glad i own an SKS!
Thanks for the info, Crash.
This bill is frightening:

A national registry and licensure is just one more little step toward a full ban. Everyone, please write your representative and senator to oppose this bill.

Actually it's considered a fixed magazine weapon.

For now. I wouldn't be shocked if an amendment was added that says "or any device that expels a projectile"

I do not know much about gun laws, as I don't own any firearms. Lack of opportunity. I do however firmly believe in the 2nd Amendment. Anything that smacks of Big Brother does get my blood going, I am just real cautious of making too much noise up in my neck of the woods. The Laws up here are pretty stringent though, from what I understand. I could actually get into trouble for posessing an empty magazine, or even a couple of rounds of ammunition, without the proper documentation. No firearm required, the Law just gets upset, period. I will firmly stand in the way of anyone who tries to take the firearms from my brother, neighbor, or friend. In this I firmly believe the creed, Don't Tread on Me. (forgive the rambling...got a little worked up)

When it's in the local newspaper here in WV and we and KY were rated on a scale of 1 to 100 and didn't break ten on the scale I tend to worry a little about it. Our speaker of the house I know well and he has helped us a lot but federal law is another story. Notice the 4th Amendment, that one is gone also and WV and KY are responsible for all the guns in every big city East of the Mississippi. My CCW is due for renewal in April so I guess about then I will move up on the list. What ticks me off is the IDOIT who started it.

All I can say is let them try to take my guns from me.
This government is getting so crazy over trying to regulate gun owners when they should just make stricter punishment for gun crimes.
I will move to the hills and live before I give up my rights I fight for.
