My dad just gave me an old 22 Glenfield Model 60. It's made by Marlin Firearms in Connecticut. It was given to him by my mother's father in the late 1960's. As far as I can tell, it does not have a serial number. I was wondering how I could tell its manufacture year, and anything else about it. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks!

If it has no serial number or date code on it, you may just be able to get a range of dates from the manufacturer. That coupled with any info you can get about when and where your grandfather acquired it may help to narrow it down.

I bought a Marlin Glenfield .22 from K-Mart waaay back about 35 years ago or so. They were a nice, inexpensive rifle that you could buy without laying out a lot of green. I suspect that they might have been made by Marlin exclusively for the discount stores like K-Mart; not sure though.

Could be Sarge. My mother thought that her dad probably traded for it back in the 60's. He then passed it on to my dad. I know it's not an expensive weapon, but the fact that it came from my grandfather (never met him, he died when I was 8 mos. old) is what I really appreciate.

Is it a bolt action? Do you have a pic of the rifle?

The one I had was a semi-auto with a tube feed under the barrel. It had a carving of a squirrel on the "hand-grip" part of the stock.

I had a Glennfeild bolt action when I was a kid and it also had a squirrel carved on the grip.

pre-68 Glenfields had no serial number. Post-'68 rifles have it stamped into the right side of the upper-receiver.
