Does anyone here have experience with these lights? They seem like a good idea.

Ooo, that looks handy. For ultralight thru-hiking, you can't beat the ease of a simple 9v battery replacement. I don't know about the full year of light... seems optimistic but if I can get more than a week out of it, I may replace my Petzl E+Lite (http://www.rei.com/product/749039), which seems like a likely comparison marker.

Here's a site with reviews of the lights you mentioned plus many others:

I made my own LED 9v light in an Altoids tin. It works great and the battery lasts weeks with just occasional use. Haven't used it exclusively on a camping trip, though.

BTW, making this light is easier than you think. If you miswire something it won't burn out the LED, unless you forget the resistor. I chose the 9v because it has a lot more milliamps (burn time) than 2 AA. I also painted a stripe of 12hr glow in the dark (2nd generation) paint on it so I can find it in the tent.

Those 9v flashlights above are a bit pricey at $25 each.
