I basically jsut want to know how these things perform. I've never used one and I'd like to get one. I have this Muela Mirage, and it's Moly Vanadium stainless steel. I was sharpening it for about a half hour on a fine stone, and nothing happened, that's why I'm considering a Diamond stone. Do you reccomend a fine or Coarse stone for general fixed blade sharpening. Any info will help. Thanks.
I've got a diamond stone that does a pretty good job, BG, with the other stones I would have started with a coarse stone and finished up with the fine stone. It's another really subjective area. I got the diamond stone because somebody helped themselves to the two stone set I used to use. I actually liked that set better.
Had some, years back. Seemed to work wonderfully well - so I sharpened every blade and pointy thing I owned - but it wore out rather quickly.

I tried starting on the only coarse stone I had, but it didn't seem to make much of a difference. Although I didn't do too many passes on it. I usually have my knives sharp, and all I need is a fine stone to make them razor sharp. But this new knife came with a rather dull edge from the factory. I ave a Tri-Hone thing where there are three stones on a rotating triangle, but It dropped once and the medium stone broke. So I'm stuck with Coarse or Fine.
