View Full Version : SAK Huntsman Plus Upgrade
http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/387/sakplusjz5.jpg
My "TSA certified" (knife had been confiscated once) Huntsman is now looking pretty good. I finally got around to ordering the "Plus" scales and installed them the other day. I now have a pen and a stainless steel pin. I got them in black, because... I am a slick, low-drag operator, and black just fits with the kind of dangerous person I am. The old scales had someone else's initials on them and last year they got a good soaking in DEET and melted. The knife looks brand new now.
I made a short video of the process, it is very easy. This is a great way to upgrade/restore an old knife.

Thanks for the vid, does look pretty straight forward. Well worth restoring a good knife. Looks great.

The straight pin will help keep your bonnet on on a blustery day in PA.

I'm confused... Are you telling me you have been able to carry that on a plane? Because everything I have read say's nothing but a butter knife...

Confiscated from original owner by TSA, purchased from TSA, Sold to Pict.
Badawg,
Fixed the original post to remove the confusion. The knife had been confiscated and resold. They sell off big lots of them once they collect enough. Mac

In this case it was Ben's 100 insect repellent. DEET is the active ingredient, but I think it is actually to solvent they put it in that attacks plastic. Mac

Ahh, ok. Makes sense now. I carry a swiss army knife in my pocketr and it has traveled through the air, but not since 9/11. It's this model, I think the most usefull one you can pack in a pocket... The saw is awesome! Pliers are good for stripping bolts and pulling cactus thorns.

The last gun show I attended, a fellow had a HUGE collection (100+) of Victorinox/Wenger SAK's that came from TSA (per his statement).
The majority were of the small "classic" size ($3-4 each) but there 10-15 Spartan/Hunstman/etc. there ($8-10 each) and a VERY nice Swiss Champ (looked brand new) for $18!!! The best 18 bucks I ever spent.
Amazing how airline travelers still "forget" to leave their knives at home.
Oh well.

Not to be a thread Hijacker, but are the TSA auctions held all over the US or is the stuff shipped to one location.

It wasn't on e-bay. I bought it from a friend who buys these knives. Mac
