I was looking on blade forums, trying to find something about the FIN Ka-bar fixed blade, and I saw a thread really similar to this one, so I cant' take any credit. So If there was a huge out break of zombies, and you had to leave your home and head to the woods (and if you live in the woods, you have to go somewhere else in the woods) what would you take for survival gear/ self defence. Gun(s) Knife(s) and survival gear. Just a fun question.

Well, off the top of my head i would think a flame thrower would handle any zombie infestations :D:DI don't know enough about firearms to make even an educated guess. :confused:(I figure I am doing well in that i know which end of a rifle to point forward.) As far as a blade, a really sharp machette would be usefull... survival gear, the usual things...firestarting materials(for when the flamethrower runs out of fuel;):D), a tarp for shelter,first aid kit, means to carry and purify water, whatever food stuffs that i already have in my pack, and two cartons of ciggarettes, as that will not be a good week to quit smoking!:D

Shotgun and kuhkuri for close encounters. And a .22 for head shots. Also pen and paper to keep a tally cuz this is gonna be fun (Think of Dawn Of The Dead). Lol.
According to "The Zombie Survival Guide" (yes, it is a real book) a flame thrower can be very dangerous to yourself since zombies can't feel pain, they will keep coming after you.

Awe man!!:mad: I was just thinking that rotted flesh would melt real easy.... phooey!!:( Well then I guess i would have to raid a friends supply of fireworks before i "beetle" out. :DHe uses high grade professional pyrotechnics. BIG BOOMS!! :eek::D or just grab a .22 and a couple of boxes of ammo. Can zombies climb trees?:confused:

going by what I have in the house I'd use my Sks, and get a tapco 30 round clip for it, and the .45 1911. Then I'd take the remington 870 12 gauge. The sks would be slung around my back, shotgun in hand, and the 45 in a holster. I'd have my Ka-bar kukri on my hip, and my Nepali kukri in my pack. The Ka-bar would be my first choice because it's a little longer. I'd take my Recon Tanto for a fixed blade. I'd also take my leather pouch. THis includes fire-starting tools, fishing line, a compas some staples and little nails, parachord, and a bandana. My mora is also attached to the pouch. I'd take my good old heavy leather coat with a hood. A tarp for shelter, canteen of water, and random other things I need to survive in the woods( that includes beef jerky:D )

i would grab my back pack which has 550 paracord, first aid, water purifier, 3 liter water bladder, some nutrition bars, compass, some local maps, flashlight, lighter, sharpening stone, and a folding knife.
for defense i would grab my duty belt which has my .40 sig p226 with four extra mags. and if i had one i would take an ar-15 and a sharp katana. i wouldnt mind having a sawed off shotgun either :D

Knives are only effective if the brain is deanimated by them such as stabbing through or crushing the skull, decapitation is also a possibility. That is why a heavier and longer blade is needed. But as far as chest wounds, futile...
And a helmet, it will protect your HEAD as long as it stays on. Full platemail or chainmail is an option for protection all over, but you'll be giving up on speed and agility.

I'd get a my really big roll of det cord and my ATV. Then I'd tie one end of the det cord to a tree and start riding circles around the zombies. When I got them all corralled up then I'll take the other end of the det cord and attach 10 or 12 feet of time-fuse and an igniter to it. When I was done I'd ignite the time fuse, jump on my ATV and ride off a couple hundred yards, stop, take out my camera and wait for the det cord to go "BOOM" and take pictures of the occasion to show my folks at the next family reunion.

I thought about doing that but then I tried to take another pull on that whiskey bottle and found it was empty. Considering the whiskey bottle was empty I figured I must be to drunk to stand up and if I was to drunk to stand up then I was to drunk to have any business trying to make coffee. So I just closed my eyes and started blowing up zombies and taking pictures of it.:D

This is intersting discussion but maybe it is good to remember that really there are no zombies. On second thought, I believe I have met a few.
I used to work security for a gated community in the mountains of PA (OK, it wasn't a career move). Anyway I was in the guard shack at o'dark hundred all alone. There was a blizzard outside, as in howling wind and total whiteout. The shack had a big light right outside the window in which I had about five feet of visibility, the wind was shaking the shack. I turned on the TV and started watching Dawn of the Dead. As the movie progressed I got progressively creeped out, glancing out the window.
"It's OK." I thought, "At least I have my Glock 19"
Then I remembered I had left it in the car... Out there... across the road under the pines...beyond the light...
"Get a grip, it's, just a freakin' movie!"
I felt much better after I got the Glock and two spares from the car. Mac

ok; just hypothetically :
if i had to flee to the woods? a hot air balloon, set up and inflated in the first available clearing. woods are no place to fight zombies. i suppose i might keep off the ground, but when i have to renew supplies, there are no huge stores of non perishable, quick to snatch foods. it's hard to hunt or dig roots when you're fighting tooth and nail against the hosts of the walking dead.
since i have a deep subconscious conviction that the zombocalypse will in fact come one day, i intend to bug-in, dig in, just generally stay as inside and under cover as possible. preferably

I'd take all my gear and stuff and make a little fort on top of a big hill, with nothing but feild surrounding me. So I could see them comming from far away and from any angle. My SKS is plenty good out to 200 yards with the open sites (and me shooting it) and if the Zombies attacked after Christmas I'd have my Red Dot Scope!! That would help with accuracy. If they got too close I'd use the Shotgun. When that runs out of ammo and they get a little closer the 1911. And when everything else fails, I'd run is I wasn't surrounded and if I was I'd use the good old Ka-bar kukri, until I was eaten, or wahtever they do to you.

Excellent book, I have it myself. Words to live by. As far as weapons go, I would take three: A 9mm pistol, a .22lr pistol, and a decent sized crowbar.
The key is destroying the brain. I'm not confident a .22 could dependably penetrate the skull sufficiently, but it makes a good backup because you can carry so much ammo. The 9mm is powerful enough to penetrate the skull, as well as being a very controllable round for accuracy. You can also carry more ammo than with the larger calibers. I would go pistols rather than rifles, real zombies are pretty slow, it shouldn't be too tough to get head shots with the pistols, and you want good portability in your weapons. 9mm and .22lr are two of the most common rounds there are, so finding more ammo is more likely. The crowbar is a great secondary weapon because it doesn't run out of ammo, it can quite efficiently cave in a skull, and it has the added bonus of helping you gain entry to locked buildings. That can be very important.

Ah, I'm afraid you've mixed up your zombies! Real zombies do not eat brains. They simply eat flesh, any flesh except the flesh of other zombies. It's what gives them the energy to keep moving.
The brain-eating zombie is the Hollywood creation of the dark comedy movie "Return of the Living Dead," and its sequels. It's closer to a spoof of real zombies. The zombies of this series of movies are the ones that constantly call out "Brains!" (real zombies can't make words) And unlike real zombies, these zombies can't be killed by destroying the brain. In fact, they appear impossible to kill, unless you burn them completely down to ash. In the movie, you even see mostly skeletal zombies moving around, which shows you it can't really be taken seriously, as the skeleton needs muscles in order to move. These movie zombies are also quite fast, real zombies are slow. Real zombies spread a virus when the bite you, these movie zombies don't. They eat your brain, and you die. Zombies in these movies are made by a weaponized gas that is released and infects people both living and dead, turning them into zombies. That stuff is just made up.
Real zombies were most accurately depicted in Romero's movies, Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead (not the remake), and Day of the Dead. They are animated by the extraterrestrial Solanum virus.

Wow that's quite a bit of info you're got there on Zombies. That seems like really realistic information. Did you get all that from the Zombie survival Guide or was that info taken from experience, like actually meating a Zombie!

Ummm well I've never seen a Zombie. But then again I've never seen a whale. But no I don't think that there are any zombies........yet.

I figure when the big quake comes, All the folks out there that didn't prepare and aren't friends are now "zombies"... And If I can't help my family and friends, I can't help them... I am slowly working on zombie proofing my home, as it's better to stay put if you can, and hardening and defense in layers are the key. Next up! Zombie proof fence in the front of the house!

I went to Barns and Noble today and read that Zombie survival guide. WOW! What an enjoyable book to read. It almost makes you believe Zombies are real.

i think Zombies in Thailand would be plenty scary. Thai people are little and can move very quietly in the jungle. Muay thai zombies would be pretty rough. I don't know if they would eat me though as they don't like western food. Maybe if they cooked me in vegetable oil with plenty of chilis.

Actually me and my brother were talking about what would be the most scary race to turn into a zombie! I thought the Gurkha type himilayan people becuase there little and fast like you said. But then again African Zombies would be really scary because they'd be tall, and fast.
