I recently read somewhere (cant remember where) that you can reload a 22lr cartridge in a situation where fresh ammo might not be available. I's highly unlikely but it can happen. If I recall correctly, matchheads can be mixed with water and ground into a liquidy paste whitch then can be poured into a fired 22lr case to make a priming coumpound. After the compound dries, a #4 buck pellet can be stuffed into the case mouth and there you have it! A homemade improvised cb cap. Has anyone heard of this before? Anyone ever try it? I would try it if I were confident that the pellet wont get stuck in the barrel.

I have not heard of it before.

Used to do it as a kid, except I would use a slightly smaller pellet than that, and use the shot bird shot shells. Worked good, except they didn't always fire.

I just did a search for it and found something similar to what you posted Superior in another forum. The only difference was the addition of black powder, which makes sense. If it can be done, my biggest concerns would be on the pressure of the brass for the 22lr since they are a bit thin.

Yeah, you need gunpowder too.

Interesting question, I did a "google" and seems that experienced reloaders are of the opinion that it is not doable. Reasons for these opinions are many. Here is a link to one such exchange of opinions.

I think it would be doable with a smaller pellet like flandersander did. Otherwise, I've never had to remove a stuck pellet and I dont want to start now.

Pal334, where did you find it on google? I'd like to read that.

Not sure if this is where he found it, but here are a few results. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=can+you+reload+22+lr&aq=f&oq=

Hardest part is using centrifugal spin to place the ignition compound around the inside groove of the rim, hard to do with ease in your home, very unlikely to do by spinning the casing in between your fingers in a "survival situation"
A lot easier to re supply a flintlock, or carry/store/hoard your own supply of .22 amo.

Hoarding........now that's what I'm talking about!

Crash and Superior I highlighted the link on my original post. Probably have to cut and paste it.
