I live in south louisiana and I am an avid duck hunter. After spending a few mornings hunting in the swamp, I have been completely enchanted by the swamp and everything in it. I am reading this forum for basic information about survival in the wild, and for the benefit of others' knowledge. I intend to explore the Atchafalaya Basin after duck season is over, and I fully expect to be stranded in it at some point by a broken boat motor--everyone who has spent any time in the swamp has been stranded and had to get out on their own. I always bring water, matches, and a shotgun in the boat with me, so I don't think I"ll ever have to get totally primitive, but you never know.
I know that the Basin is alot easier survival proposition than other scenarios (deserts, frozen mountain regions), and that food and water are abundant, but it is still a very dangerous place for ignorant unprepared people, so I'm looking to learn. Thanks in advance to all of you for the knowledge and perspective you'll share.
