Did you glue the fletching to the shaft and then tie on the sinew, or just leave a primitive arch without glue-----great pictures.

RWB do you shot it in a lighter weight bow or one you might shoot for bigger game?
Very nice work . Do you have to smooth out the joint knots on the cane ?

Very nice work. A mate of mine grows bamboo. He offered me some Pseudosasa japonica (Arrow Bamboo) on the weekend. I will try to emulate what you have done. Do you have any more stuff you make to show us? Thanx, Reiver

I really like the look of the the leaves on the Pseudosasa japonica, they're so much longer than other bamboo's.

They were made for my 48# Osage bow, And they fly great, I also have shot out of my 70# recurve and also fly great, But I feel there a little light. As for the cane. Its River cane on the joints its just a thin sleave, Just clean up reel good with a sharp knife, Straighten and yor good to go.

thing looks like a frog gig kinda lol. ive seen similair points in a book i have written by howard hill on his adventures hunting in the yukon. he had a different head for big game, small, fish and birds as do modern hunters. his fish head looks some what like the one in the picture.

Yea Fishpole,I use them to shoot Dove On the ground, But they are a one shot tip. You make up several At a time, Are made to slip in the end of the cane snug, When broken just pull out and replace with a new one. Hope this helps.

hmm, sounds doable. cane is scare...well non existance in these parts parts though. Im sure i could manage some thing with what on hand. ive got a month of from college and ill have some time on my hand, primitive arrows and partridge sound like a good combination to kill a little time. ill let you know how that goes. if youve ever hunted partidge with a bow (or a shotgun for that matter) youll know my chances arent so hot lol. thanks for the inspiraton!

Hey I can dig it,Im pretty sure it grows there, But if you cant find it there. We can get you some, It grows in semi wet cond. It is the only native cane in North Am. The others come from Asia, Im Not sure I spelled that right, Tonight I have ran with the BEER. By the way, How old are you ? Still in collage?

haha ya i guess im a young'n compared to some of you folk. not to going calling anyone in here old lol. im going on 20 come febuary, and yeah im in college i go to school in New Hampshire but live in upstate NY. and ill look into finding me a little cane but im not so sure of just how abundant it is here. i have some cedar arrows and i think some dogwood arrows back home that i made primitive style using progressively smaller holes driller in a an antler. hard work and it takes a while but you get a striaght (ish) shaft. thinking about mounting my tips on those, ill let ya know when i get some heads together.

the river cane you have must be better than the stuff we have on the sacramento river. it's like something between a thin walled bamboo and corn stalk.

that's a nice looking arrow and the fletching is great. i've never been great at hand fletching, but i do well enough i think. maybe one of these days i'll make another fletching jig.

i've got too many projects on hold, and not all of them for any good reasons.

Canid, I was born and raised in northern CA. A place called Feather Falls. Most of my family still lives in the area. The Sierra's are a beautiful and rugged place.

kinda funny too klk; as i was raised in alaska. lol.

runs with beer, river cane is a name used broadly for several species of Arundinaria canes [two indidenous to north america and several introduced canes], so googling it hoping to run into a given species without knowing the binomial would be a long shot.

the cane i've seen most often used for arrows is tonkin, and i've thought about planting some of that for that purpose. it's beautiful stuff.
