View Full Version : Broken Ankle

Last Friday I was guiding an ATV tour. While ascending a hill my ATV got hung up so I hopped off. As soon as I hit the ground the client behind me hit and ran over me. On Monday I had surgery on my left ankle. Then Doc put 2 screws in it. The Doc said it would be about 6 weeks until I can ride again....I guess my season ended early this year.:(

Man, that sucks. I know the feeling I had my right ankle crushed in an accident about 15 years ago. The docs put in 4 screws but only 2 ever came back out, I've got permanent hardware. Put your leg up and relax man, at least you'll get to spend more time with us, LOL.

Dang man. That's terrible!!! I'm glad it wasn't worse than an ankle. Is the guy's hide on your wall?

The up side is you get to spend LOT'S of time on Wilderness-Survival. I hear that's a pretty cool place!!

that's terrible man. we all know that all it takes to put you out is one little mistake, but i keep forgetting the one that does it doesn't have to be your own. take care of the foot and for the love of god stay off of it for the whole duration. i know too many people who's 6-8 week heal-up turned into a year because they couldn't let it heal.

klkak,OUCH,I know what a broken ankle feels like,it ain't fun. I think you did the right thing getting the hardware,I refused to let them put screws in mine, and it took 18 weeks to heal without putting weight on it.

Thanks for all the encouragement guys and Nell. My boss is bringing out the Workmans comp paper work tomorrow. I hate doing paperwork!

Thanks for your thoughtfulness Hopeak. I had a long talk with the new .338 and it understands that it has to be patient. Once I'm healed I will take it on many Alaska adventures. Besides it ain't finished yet. Still gotta buy and install the scope as well as get a laminated stock for it. I really like the looks of it so far with the shorter bbl and Remington express sights.

I'm getting the German #4 recticle. I'm thinking it will work great if I need to make a fast follow up shot at close range. ie. Using the thicker crosshairs to brackett the target. When I get it finished I will post some pic's and let everyone know how it shoots.

For black powder, 45 or 50?

For powder what's best and why?

rebel
09-01-2008, 02:37 AM
I've got a lyman plains rifle in the 50. Last year I won the shoot w/ regular black powder. I was thinking of triing the Shockeys' powder. Do you or anyone have any experience w/ this powder.

I've also heard the 45 shoots flatter (duh). How much at a 100 yrds?

Is it true the .32 takes too much cleaning?

Well, these questions give you something to do.

I went for my follow up with the surgeon today. The tech cut the cast off and the surgeon said it looks good. I however almost puked and passed out. The surgeon told the tech to put a new cast on it. The surgeon then told me to come back in 7 days. He would take out the staples and put a new cast on it. He then smiled and walked out. I did over and hour of driving for 5 minutes with the doctor and 45 minutes with the tech and waiting. Now I'm going to take copious amounts of oxycodon, prop my leg up (above my heart) and go to sleep.:(

I love two threads in one. It's makes for much more interesting reading. So, for the sake of newcomers, I'll condense both threads into one. Here goes.

You could probably remove the staples with a 7.62 Mauser. Of course copious amounts of Oxycontin will give you problems when trying to clean a .32 unless, of course, you use a German #4. If you spent just five minutes eating black powder it would probably make you puke and pass out.

I had a follow up appointment for my ankle today. They took the cast off and took some x-rays. The tibia fracture is healing really good. The fib fracture has not closed up yet. So they put me back in a cast and said to come back on 6 Oct. I am so ready to be done with all this.

Hopeak, I took the Hawkeye out and shot it with "open sights" off a bench at Birchwood range. I fired five 3 round groups at 100 yards. All groups were right at 2 inches. I can't wait to see what it will do when I get the scope on it.

Sorry to hear about your foot man; that totally sucks. a couple of years ago I snapped the Achilles tendon off my left foot. That was on Saturday and I was back at work on Monday, hobbling around but getting my work done. I never went to the doctor and it took about a year to heal. You should have shot the jackass that ran over you and used the "self defense" defense, LOL. Here is a pic of my foot.
http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q76/signpimp/Just%20me/badfoot2.jpg

Shooting clients is bad for business.

If you never went to the doctor then how do you know it was snapped off?
Do you have an x-ray machine at home or your place of employment?

To my "medically" trained eyes it looks like a sprained ankle!

About four years ago I had a very severe ankle sprain. Looked just like the picture. Had x-rays and the whole works. Took about 7 or 8 months before I wasn't limping. To this day it still gives me trouble from time to time. Orthopedic doc said short of surgery it wasn't going to get any better. I'll pass for now.

Quite often a severe ankle sprain is more painful and takes much longer to heal then most fractures. My cast came off Monday morning and I was walking around the house that night with the aid of a cane. I can now walk around the house without the cane. When I go outside I put the "walking boot" on for additional support and use a cane.

Starting to dislike the forum? I've found that happens when people spout crap, contradict themselves, and get called on it by the members. If you are going to be an active member of this forum you have got to have a tough hide! If you are tender skinned then you are going to get your feeling hurt. Most of us are not intellectuals. We range from barely able to read & write rednecks to Remy. With some of us the filter between what pops into our mind and what comes out on the key board is broken.

On the contrary TR, I rather like most of the Americans and think that I get along quite well with most of the people here. I just happen to think you're a jacka$$, you don't have to try to lump 300 million of your countrymen in to that for a sympathy ploy against most Canadians or whatever. Nor do I ever profess to speak for anyone but myself. Being unarmed in a war of wits against you? Well, that would probably because I've assessed your capabilities and wouldn't feel any need to be armed in a war of wits against you. You contradicted yourself within the thread, I saw it and called you on it, don't like it? well, jeepers pumpkin, here's a kleenex, don't blow too hard, you've only got so many brain cells.

I don't really care what anyone thinks on this forum; I know what happened to me and the outcome. If I'm going to singled out and called a liar for trying to add to a thread I will just stay here and take shots at those of you that choose to torment me. In a war of wits Trax, you are are unarmed. No wonder Canadians are called "Eh Holes"

No, I use to breed pythons and boas.

I thought that was very interesting and was gonna ask a technical question, then I got to thinkin' Do I REALLY want to know how??? I decided that's one thing I won't need to use. Sorry to bother you.

I suppose breeding pythons beats working on the computer in your underwear...not by much, mind you.

You know, I tried. But I've had three spirit talkers and two shamans turn me down. They all said the visions scared them. Go figure.

One of the spirit talkers went into a trance and then blinked his eyes a couple of times. He said, "That there was scary I don't care who you are. The Great Spirit bless them little pygmies down there in New Guinea." I think he was a Larry the Cable Guy fan.
