Mountaintrekker and wife are on our way! (1800 miles so far!!!) We are somewhere in BFE North Dakota at a KOA and after visiting some friends in several states along the route... we should be up there the middle of September.
We have everything we own packed in the pickup and our 31' Airstream, YIKES! Glad I re-packed all the bearings and got new suspension all around, we is a saggin. :)
The diesel is getting 16 to 18 MPG with the fully loaded rig and we just fueled up today for $4.00 gal. Not nearly as bad as we predicted. We had to pour $2000.00 plus into repairs and upgrades to make sure we stand a better chance of making it up there with minimal problems. Too many tricks and cool little things we did to list right now, I'll try and make a post about it all if you are interested in the coming weeks.
We look forward to becoming permanent residents of the great state of Alaska and contributing as best we can.
I should be able to check posts every couple of days or so for the next week.

Fall, is in the smell of morning. The Fireweed is bloomed out, and the Mountain Lupine stands by to cast her seeds, it is a glorious time to be alive. A glorious time for new beginnings.

Honk.....when you go past the cut-off to Hope.

So, once you pass Hope to you have to abandon any that you have left? Probably where "abandon all hope" comes from. Good to know.

Abandon all hope, is from Dante's, "Inferno" and is what was on the Gate to Heaven. "Abandon all Hope ye who enter here." and means that clinging to hope is our He11." and that to be free one must fully experience the suffering. Remy can explain it.

But isn't Hope the gate to Heaven? I've been pretty close to Hope (If I were joking I'd say all the way to despair) and it's beautiful country. Bitty Bopped right up route 1 from Seward to Anchorage.

(Despite your dislike of Anchorage I did like it. The Farmer's Market was cool)

Rick, you might enjoy, Dante's "Inferno"..........I love the opening, "In the middle of the road of my life, I awoke in a dark woods, and the "WAY" was wholly lost to me".

Anchorage was perfect 40 years ago.

Well, now don't get too excited. I didn't say it was perfect. I just said it was nice. There was one shop there selling Yak wool stuff that cost more than my first car. Truth!

The trip is often more fun then the getting there!
