Ok,I have ran the woods since I was a kid,and I have never seen this before, tried looking it up online, but no luck.
The "fruit" is about the size of a coconut, and has a milky substance that oozes out of it,any ideas??
I found the tree at the bottom of the drive when I dropped my daughter off at home,so I'm guessing it is native, since it was on the edge of the woods, but I could be wrong. The leaf is from the tree that it came from.

Was wondering if some kind of nut on the inside developing. I remember chestnut trees - they looked pretty strange while growing.

chigger! I did a search on headgeapple and that is indeed what it is! Thank you! It is also known as osage orange.

says the fruit repels insects including spiders, roaches, ants, fleas, and box elder bugs, and the wood is great for primitive bows.

Looks like a spider ball. They sell them here at the grocery store. Not to eat but to place in your home to repel spiders. I don't know the tree.

they are great. they are the same fruit rebel mentioned, and as you read, they do seem to repel spiders and other insects.
the wood of this tree, when it can be found straight, makes good bows.
