I am looking at getting a Leonard Day English Boulton Fowler Flintlock. But I can't find a pic of his work or anything on this guy except his add in muzzleloader mag, any know where I can get some info on him or does anyone have any of his work?
I have seen a few of his longrifles and the craftmenship is 100% outstanding, but I just want a lil info.

Leonard Day is one day set aside each year to honor those individuals named Leonard. I think it's that fifth Tuesday in September but I'm not certain.

Rick is correct. We're all supposed to go around on Leonard Day and get drunk and say that we have some kind of genetic link to someone named Leonard and that's why we're behaving the way we do. Rather like being Irish on St. Patrick's Day.

In Canada, we have National Aboriginal Day as well, but I see precious few running around acting like Indians, can't imagine why not. There's a lot of people I'd like to introduce to the third world living conditions of most reserves.

I understand in America you have something called Black History Month! Oh my goodness, an entire month. Anyone want to fill me in on what festivities that might include? Maybe Sam Reeves will. :D

Now that I've totally hijacked Beo's thread anyway...my organization is the only ones in town that do anything to recognize National Aboriginal Day. We always do a big barbecue and picnic and usually host a mini-powwow. This year we managed to get a lot more entertainment and we had this group come out from the city, a bunch of native kids who were taking hip-hop instruction from this black dude. Three kids and the instructor, man they put on a good show, first time I ever liked hip-hop (being at an age where hiphop means how you get to the phone to call for help when you've broken a hip) but these guys were really good. They've already managed to put out their first album

Aboriginals is the nice grouping word that our federal government chose for anyone with native blood, back in 1998, so as they could lump us all together.

The term "First Nations" can be confusing. Collectively, First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples constitute Canada's Aboriginal peoples, first peoples, or indigenous peoples. Although "First Nations" seems to suggest that these people are the sole original occupiers of the land that is now Canada, the Inuit are also ancient inhabitants not included in the term.
"First Nations" is a legally undefined term that came into common usage in the 1980s to replace the term "Indian band". Elder Sol Sanderson says that he coined the term in the early 1980s. A band is a legally recognized "body of Indians for whose collective use and benefit lands have been set apart or money is held by the Canadian Crown, or declared to be a band for the purposes of the Indian Act". There are currently over 600 recognized First Nations governments or bands in Canada, roughly half of which are in the provinces of Ontario and British Columbia.

Well brother, we're talking about what the government managed to come up with, so don't expect anything too terribly rational. But see, really, in Canada, there's treaty First Nations, non-treaty First Nations, status First Nations, non-status First Nations, Inuit and Metis. The government likes it that way because you know...divide and conquer....but, our PM of the day thought he was going to deal with all the native issues in Canada by throwing everyone together into the same pot. Would be a good plan if everyone had the same issues/concerns.

Need a breakdown of the First Nations? Treaty means that the government recognizes your treaty rights, and your status as an Indian, non-treaty, no treaty rights but they still might recognize that you're an Indian. Non-status, basically you're screwed, it's like yeah, you're an Indian but we can't find a slot to stick you in. Metis (mixed blood) you're about a step below non-status. Hunting rights are a funny thing, because the govt is willing to recognize treaty Indian's inherent hunting, fishing, and trapping rights. Means that those rights supercede the treaties, God given rights because its the way the people lived before Europeans came here. Well, if that's the case, why won't they recognize those rights for all Indians? Just another day of fun in the sun, some of the things that I get to help my clients sort through.
