Guess it would get a person started but all files are not created equal. Probably the best source of decent steel scrap wise is old car or truck springs. The way I treat mine is basic and so easy I can do it. Lots of people with time on their hands make nice cutting tools as gifts and for personal use but production quality is good enough for most people so you won't make any $$ on them.
