Making jerky? recipes and methods?

I've found a good website that has a lot of info and recipes about making jerky:

But all these recipes require an oven. Does anyone have any information about making jerky in the field using an open fire? Things I should know, or watch out for? obviously timing will be different, and for that I'll just have to experiment, but I'd like to be able to prepare venison in camp rather than hauling it home, especially if I need to. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum Brumblebug. There are quite a few postings on making beef jerky. Try using the search function (words need to be more than 3 letters) and read through what comes up. There are posts on using dehydrators, ac filters, cold smoke....should keep you busy for awile. In the meantime how about heading over to the Introduction section and tell us a bit about yourself.
