I just heard on the local news about waiting for garden space. "Gardens will defray the costs to feed families". DUH!
"The waiting times are in the 100's of names" . The cityots are coming to a realization about their preparedness.
It's like the small wave before the big one.

Rebel - waiting for garden space where? In cities?

I saw it on TV. I can't find any mention of it on their sites. ????
This is marginally relevant but apparently in the UK if 5 people (under the same council/borough) ask for land from the council they have to provide it for a small holding, and the rent is really cheap as they tend to give wasteland that you need to work into usable land. There is a lot of wasteland and unused land around and a lot of people don't have gardens or allotments so this is a great alternative (if you can find a few friendly neighbours that is - somewhat of a rarity these days).

Sorry, what I meant was the report talking about the lack of garden space and a waiting list in some city (I guess the particular city doesn't really matter)? If so, that has long been a problem. When all of the dirt is either covered with concrete, or deemed "off limits" it's going to happen. In my case, there is plenty of places to plant, I just don't happen to own them. That's why I love container gardening. You can do quite a bit in a limited space.
