I can hardly tell you all what respect I have for the USCG and CCG. A couple of you here know why I'm posting this.

Takes brains and guts to even get in, it gets tougher after that.

40,000 people do the work of 400,000.

Life saving, not life taking, unless they have to.

In Katrina, they were pretty much the only rescue operation worth a crap.

Why?

Because they are empowered to make individual decisions. No "top down" in emergencies.

These guys are the real deal. The more you learn about them the more you respect them. They never ask for attention.

In these cynical times, they keep the faith.

While I like the Coast Gurad and respect them greatly, they were not the only group doing the best work down there. And Rick is right, three years ago let it go bro.

Young guy that I hired when he first got back from Iraq was an electronics tech in a helicopter squadron (Navy). During Katrina his squadron flew over 1,000 rescue flights.

Never really though much of the USCG until I read "The Perfect Storm."

Kind of changed after that. Did a little research and found that those search and rescue jumpers, bad to the bone. One chance, in their whole career and if they fail, they are gone. No redo'.
