Went to stay with my mother for a few days, on the way back from the ferret shed (to see the new babies) i spotted a baby grass snake, it had beautiful markings for such a young one. Was only around 6 inches long, but was incredibly fast.

They have some interesting behaviour, they don't actually bite (they obviously are able to they just don't seem to) but they do pretend to - they shoot for you but with their mouth closed. Its hard not to flinch a little as instinct tells you to move your hand away from a darting snake, but i was surprised at how fast he was.

Okay, I'll bite. Is a ferret shed where you keep the ferrets?

Ah yeah my mother and boyfriend keep ferrets and theres some cages in a shed and a big run outdoors. Theres also a polecat thats about ready to drop a few shortly!

Nah didn't eat the grass snake, thats illegal here as they are protected. Although if i froze it i imagine it would have made a fancy toothpick!

Is that another name for a garter snake? I've been seeing garters this year since about May 1.

no we don't have those in Britain.
this will tell you all about them:

(They may be known as water snakes since they like and feed around water)
