I really didn't want to go to work tonight anyway - which was just as well, as I hit a deer on the way. It was a pregnant doe, and she dodged just the opposite direction I thought she would take, which ended up getting her three broken legs, and nudged my car from the shoulder into the ditch. That wouldn't have been so bad, even though the ditch was fairly deep, but I was going pretty fast, and there was a field approach in my direction of travel. The old Camri went airborne, and landed in the ditch on the other side of the field approach, in a foot or two of water. When I opened the door, the water came in.

My seat snapped off, somewhere on the ride, which kind of negated the point of wearing a seat belt, and I got bruised ribs, elbow, knee, and hip. I called the 911, just to let them know ("No, you don't need to send a squad."), then called for a wrecker. I've got AAA, which has always been a good idea. They never make a cent off of me. It is good for 100 mile tow, and this one was about 98, round trip.

I got out my wind-up flash light, another good idea. They don't light that well, but every other light I've kept in the car - batteries are dead when you want to use it.

The deer was sitting up looking around when I found her. She tried to scramble away as I approached, but a shot through the head dissuaded her. I dressed her and had her in the trunk by the time the wrecker guy showed up.

Hate to loose that car; I've always liked it, but at least venison is on the menu.

Man, sorry to hear of your bad luck. Glad it didn't turn out any worse. You might contact Toyota about the seat snapping loose. That is not a good thing. In the end, metal can be replaced, people can't. Take it easy and get well!

The important thing is that you're able to tell people the stroy. Cars can be replaced, you can't.
