View Full Version : Tree Riding
I wonder how many of you have ridden trees as a kid? I remember my father pointing out likely trees for me to climb and ride down. Birches if I remember correctly. Haven't done it in years but I still remember how much fun it was. Went looking and found a vid for those of you that don't know what I'm talking about.

i hate when that happens nothing worse than brining one back too small so i figured i'd bring back one really heavy make it hard to swing well that was a bad idea also he just made me sit there while he carved a nice one then i got it worse, so much for thinking outside the box

We used to shinny up willow and cottonwoods when you got to the top you would get them to rocking when you got them going good as soon as you got to a good up swing you would let go. We would see who could get launched the furtherest.

Yep. Then we would get in trouble because the trees were bent out of shape.

Oh yes, bushwacking in these steep mountains, when you go downhill it is often easier to grab small trees and ride them downhill where they gently deposit you. Then grab the next tree and the next as you make your way down the mountain.
Going downhill can pound your legs and knees so the tree method helps prevent that. Plus it can be faster going.
One problem you need to watch out for is even sturdy looking trees sometimes have weak points - they can suddenly snap and send you flying awkwardly into the ground.
I've done that a time or two as well. Or pick the wrong type of tree. Same result.
