Wasn't sure the best wording to use for this on the topic.

When making camp - what kind of distances are we talking about to have between sleep quarters / food / trap lines (where kills are dressed also) / water...or even trails?

I understand keeping the distance to dilute the chance encounter of animals, but what distances should be maintained?

Just thought of this reading the black bear thread...and I'm in Canada and my zone would be that area where black bears might not know of people too much...also wolves.

Those are my two animal concerns, I've already thought of trip wires to alert to incoming visitors, but any prevention or steps to reduce the chance are to be employed. Don't have a gun..so...yeah....there ya go.

A great thing we use at our hunting camp is solar powered electric perimeter fences that surround camp. they work quite well, and set-up in minutes.

I never ever field dress, or skin anything close to camp. Just a plain bad idea in Griz country. We pack quartered animals out asap. If we can't pack out until the next morning we suspend the meat from a tree or meat pole with a block and tackle. And leave all the guts and vitals at the kill site.

Our trapping season is when bears are hibernating, though so a trapper camp shouldn't be as a big concern. However, if its productive your going to have lots of scavengers around- so I'd still keep the dressing out area far from camp.
