View Full Version : Gin and golden raisens: arthritis cure?

I was listening to a medical show (Peoples' Pharmacy) and they are pretty level-headed about things, though they do accept new treatments if there is evidence that they work.
The show's topic was "Home Remedies" and 2 people called in and said covering 9 raisens in gin, and eating this, once per day, cured their arthritis. I know there must be several types of arthritis, and this might help one of them. But has anyone heard of this? Has anyone tried it?
I ask because I seem to have some inflammation in my knee meniscus cartilage and it isn't getting better. Doctor didn't say it's arthritis, and I'm not either.

There are actually over a 100 different diseases that are categorized as arthritis.
I have one of the more rare types. My doc says no studies have ever been done because it would be practically impossible to get enough patients into a trial / study.
Didn't even make the arthritis foundation list of types. (http://www.arthritis.org/types-arthritis.php)
There are lots of different underlying causes - I seriously doubt there is a panacea that covers / cures / all kinds. Maybe give ya a little imaginary relief.
Sounds like it would do no harm to give it a try...
Holding out brown bottle of patent medicine: Would you like a bottle of Dr. Teotwawki's Snake Oil Medicine? Cures what ails ya!

I have heard about the raisen and gin trick. Don't know if it works, but I guess if you still have pain, and keep eating enough of them, the pain will eventually go away. Well, except for the hangover.

I have arther and TDW has had surgery for it many times. I am building the bionic woman one step at a time. I think I should give this a try.
I am not a drinker so it might give some temporary relief for a time.

Here you go, Don. Recipe and all.

I tried gin and olives for years and I can't remember any aches or pains after my evening IV of said medication. Our local version does have raisins, no wait a sec "DO RAISINS HAVE LEGS???"

For the time being the only thing that works for me is Tramadol and beer.

Believe it or not I heard about this and tried it about 20 years ago.
For my type of joint pain it really did not help.:(
I did however develop a taste for Gin and to this day crave Bombay sapphire gin and tonics.:D

Just to go along with the gin theory, here's an article that I read today. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=080605084703.m5zr5mj8&show_article=1
Sam, I'm on Tramadol as well for arthritis. Just watch the alcohol intake. The two together can depress respiration. Not breathing is unhealthy.;)

OK, I was being flip about the gin but agree with Rick. I am a EMT and realize that no one should mix meds and alcohol any time. Not a good idea and can have some really serious and even fatal side-effects. :(

I reckon the Tramadol explains some of your outlandish posts. :D
Survival Cocktail (Excellent when paired with Bacon):
5 parts (at least 5 shots) premium tequila
5 tablets Tramadol (crushed) :D
1 oz fresh lime juice
Combine ingredients and shake over ice. Strain into chilled glass and garnish with lime wedge. Chug down very quickly.

There is a user on here by the handle of Adventurdoc. He is an MD and has a website. I would advise asking him about it or going to his website would be your best bet, rather than getting laymans advice. :D
