Here is a link to a article about a Metis hunter that survived a heart attack, stuck snow machine and 24 hours in subarctic cold. I would say it was his lucky day.

Yep, I consider him a smart one.
Choose the time to say it had been a good run, put in for the retirement benefits and enjoy a few years teaching the other Canadian Rangers how it is done.
If it ain't your time even a doctor can't kill you. It wasn't his time. That was just God's way of saying time to take life easy. I'm not that hard headed. It didn't take anything that bad to slow me down.

He seems to be a tough competent man who did the right things. As best he could when alone.
