I made a strange discovery that inpenges on my ability to remain alive under adverse conditions. Another discovery anyway, to go along with all the other factors age and possibly a slight case of dementia place in my way. (I can't remember if I have dementia, does any one here know?)

I ran out of fabric softener sheets last week. Not wanting to make a special trip to the village Dollar Store while laundry was waiting I simply put the clothes in the dryer and turned the machine on.

Late in the week I developed a slight rash in an unmentionable spot and dismissed it as a simple irritation. It refused to be dismissed and has grown into an irritating, agonizing, chaffing, rawness that grates on my very soul and stops all functions of normalcy.

Right now I have the entire wardrobe in the washer/dryer cycle to be properly softened using the latest modern chemicals.

I also have a number of creams and salves smeared on critical portions of my anatomy.

I have come to the realization that if I had to wash my clothes with lye soap and beat them on a flat rock I would die of skin irritation even before I ran out of meds, food or water.

And anything or anyone that crossed my path while I was in that critical state would be at a high level of risk, escaping my presence with howls and mumbling to one another, "What is the matter with that old geezer anyway?"

I have become too soft to survive.:wheelchair:

Technically that might qualify as pornographic literature.

I'm going to go see what's on the Disney channel to rinse out my brain.

I always thought the fabric softeners were how women "marked their territory"......and have something to poke out your sleeve or cuff while out and about.

But yeah, while DW was "resting" after a couple of surgeries...I did the chores pretty regular....but was reminded how things were done..
included fabric softeners.

My biggest complaint is "new clothes".....
The size system seems to be a different...... cut and length....not talking about getting fat....just the lack of "ballroom"...and zipper length.
Shirts seem like they getting stiffer with age....not softer...?

My old body must be different than a modern body...and nothing seems to fit as well and be as comfortable......Or I'm just getting old.

But you are right....stiff clothes really are a pain in the .....well a pain.

You might be perfectly fine with lye soap. The detergents you're using to wash your clothes, or the artificial fragrance are probably the problem. The fabric softener must neutralize the effects.

BTW, "lye soap" is redundant. All soap is lye soap. Soap is a fatty acid reacted with a strong base (i.e. lye). No lye, no soap. It's like saying, "I'll have an egg omelette, please."

Sorry, I'm a soapmaker, and that's a hot-button. I'll get off my soapbox now.

What kind of box?...Soap box?...Why is the soap in a box?....How can you get on a soap box?
The soap I get is in a small box the will squish if stood on.......
Bazinga...
Bhohahaha

My hot button is "Hot water heater"...if it was hot, you wouldn't need heater....Right?

I am still a man. I do not use fabric softeners. I use hard cloth the way god intended them to be worn. Fresh and warm out of the dryer.

All my day to day clothes are so worn and threadbare #1 wife says I look like a homeless person, so I don't need to soften them. "You're going to town like that?" as I head out to go to the post office, drug store and grocery. I look real quick to make sure my truck is washed not knowing what she's talking about. On the subject of clean trucks, fabric softener dryer sheets are great for getting those stubborn dried on bugs off the grill.

when the wife is not around I just throw my warshed cloths on bushes around the yard and let them air dry. When the wife is around I have to act more civilized and let her handle it.

Yes....was told I looked like him for years.......but I have feeling people were just being kind........or trying to get out of the conversation.

His take on "Stuff" are still words I live by.....

You might try an additional rinse cycle. Especially if your washer is overloaded at all, you may not be getting all the soap or additives out. YMMV.
