Mrs. Crash and I rented a cabin in the middle of nowhere in the North Carolina mountains. It was wonderful.

Aye. I love the Rockies, but the Appalachians will always be "my mountains".

Except my van didn't much like them. The Blue Ridge Parkway just about wrecked its geometry.

Many of the areas of the Appalachians only get repeat custormers, which is alright with me. The only people that go there are locals and people that really care about the outdoors. For instance, if you've never been to Buck's Pocket or Sipsey Wilderness in Alabama, or Cloudland Canyon in Georgia, you should consider them.

It's not available on Netflix streaming or DVD anymore (the freaking b******s), but I highly recommend the Okee Dokee Brothers video of a trip on the Appalachian Trail called "Through the Woods". It's bit-and-pieced on YouTube, so you can get a flavor for it. It's actually the second film they did after "Can You Canoe?", a partial trip down the Mississippi from near the source.

I may actually buy the DVDs for Christmas presents (even for myself) since I just discovered I can't access them through netflix anymore.
