Hey folks,
I'm trying to build up a small inventory of traditional wood working tools. All human powered for building our cabin, making some furniture and crafts, plus logging.
I have some experience logging and doing cabinetry, but I want to know if I'm missing anything. I'm not trying to go crazy as our space is limited due to the move.
I have...
1. one and 2 man crosscut saws, finer ripping saw
2. adze and axes, wedges, draw knives
3. wood chisles
4. bit and brace (looking for plug cutters)
5. set of small carving tools
6. cant hook
7. small hand drill and bits
8. block plane, spoke shave
9. files and sharpening stones
10. looking for a spoon gouge or something bigger
Let me know what I'm missing... not trying to build a cathedral or anything, just some basic tools.

Find a copy of Ancient Carpenter's Tools by Henry C. Mercer. Great book!! Loads of pictures that will give you some great ideas on tools you can build yourself. I built a set of 4 foot clamps out of 2 X 4s that is all wood and can be used to glue up table tops, cabinet sides, etc.

I would include a small T-square and a framing square. I would also add a spirit level. A three foot one is handy but I also have a five foot one that is the berries. You will also want a block plane or fore plane. A strong wooden mallet you can make yourself. You can make your own Sawyer's Props. A miter box, you can make yourself.

Do yourself a favor and get the book. There will be so many things in it you will say, "Hey! I can make that!".

Here's an online but it doesn't show the whole book:

You can sign up for a weekly email that provides some kind of "tip of the week". Or, if you would prefer, here is their list of tips. There are really some pretty ingenious ideas on here and some that are sort of ho hum.
