What do you think of them?
Are they still strike anywhere if you water proof them?
Where can you get them cheap?

You can get them cheap pretty much anyplace camping and outdoor supplies are sold. I don't think they'll still strike anywhere if you waterproof them, how you going to water proof them?

I like them, always have a box of them around me somewhere.

Fill a shotgun shell up with hot candle wax- then dip a Blue Tip into the wax. Lay on a cookie sheet to dry.

There's a couple of threads on strike anywhere matches. Here's one with instructions on how to water proof them.

Just peel off the wax and strike away.

Good to be back. But doesn't that defeat the purpose? Or do you mean take it off just to strike it?

you can stuff the heads of strike anywere matches into a tennis ball to make a percussion bomb (pack the heads in there tight but not to tight)

As you strike it. (just don't dunk it in your coffee before you do).

Peel it when you want to strike it.

Use extras: You need to make use of all materials for survival. #1. "borrow" little kid's bicycle spoke. #2. crank out leaving approx. 1/2" tube space #3. place match tips almost to end #4. insert BB(snug fit) #5. point in direction of target #6. heat tube under match heads #7. Boom! respectable velocity for a BB. USE AT YOUR TARGETS OWN RISK

lol warman87 everyones read the anarchist cookbook and know that 2/3's of it is bull****. iv yet to hear of anyone making a grenade outa SA matches and a tennis ball (and iv tried)

well i also did it you stuff the ball full then tape it shut and throw it it makes a big bang
i guess if you put a fuse in it you might be able to blow it up but i dont know

besides filling it with black powder and using a fuse it (probibially) wouldn't explode. a tennis ball just doesnt have the strength to hold the high pressures low explosives generate long enough after ignition for it to actually 'go off'

You can have all that junk but a fuse don't cut it. You need a cap on the end of the fuse, or run wire and use a hand crank gen to set it off. I always notched the fuse so I could get a good estimate of when it would go bang. Don't know anything about your cookbook, I helped shoot coal back in '62 in KY

As you strike them, the thin coating wears away, exposing the head.

Rick, try flowers and the words, you look wonderful honey. It should reduce the number of impacts with a frying pan. ;)

Read back through the post. There are some online stores that carry it. Some places have no trouble finding them and others they just don't exist.

Do they have a "Farm & Fleet" in your area? I get mine at a similar chain that only exists here in Ill. & Iowa by name of "Farm King". They keep them in the section where they have the "Bar-B-Que" stuff.

You'll probably pay a bit more on line for them once you factor in shipping, but ebay has them at a "not to terribly bad price".

I found using Strike Anywhere Matches is very frustrating. They light quick and can easily burn out quick too. I prefer the Windproof/Water Proof matches that will always light and burn long enough to get something lit. I tried using strike anywhere matches in the field and they just don't work well.

Just dip the matches in paraffin and you have Windproof/Water Proof Matches at half the cost.
