Possibles bag ......
I have been known to "salvage" materials for leather projects from many places....Flea markets, thrift stores, couches on the curb.....

Have already used a couple of leather purses for materials..... and modified them as possibles bags for different muzzle loaders.

So, looking to set one up for a .45 cal inline....rummaged around in my "stash" of leather stuff...and pulled out a purse that I figured would work as a start.
Got it at a yard sale, with the idea of putting it to use.

Looking it over, and noticed it said "Coach".......Hummmm ...had heard my SIL bragging about her $1000 buck "Coach Purse",...Could it be?

Asked DW...she opens it a see the name stamped inside, then says, "Where did this come from?"
Said, "Yard sale?"and she says, "Hey, cool I always wanted a "Coach'....Thanks!"

Hard to get a pic....inside a purse....LOL

Yeah.....That didn't work out as I planned....

Guess I will have to go "Hunting" for more "surprises"..I mean "supplies".....then again you never know what you will find.. or where.

I always check out purses and bags at sales....generally a couple of bucks.

Have made up and given away more that a few to new shooters...

Find a likely bag, .....add wider and longer shoulder strap....and mounting, if necessary...cut flap if I don't like the shape an get rid of metal clasps and hardware.

Even took two single heavy leather bags, stitched than back to back for a "saddle bag" design.

What ever it takes to make it serviceable and look decent.

I usually look a the purses in the thrift stores. They are cheap and sometimes there is a good leather one. Most are fake leather though. Great story though. :)

Do you know how lucky you are that she didn't pick up that label AFTER you had hacked up that purse?

If I would have hacked it........there wouldn't be a label...no evidence.

HUNTER!

I have that Coach bag- bought it in 1987 when I started as a summer associate at a law firm. Got the briefcase to match which Marshall Field's (now defunct of course) sold me for $250 when it should have been $375. [I did go back to tell them they undercharged me but they said NOPE, their mistake, keep it and use it!]

Ok sounds like alot BUT FAST FORWARD TO TODAY
DD #1 PROUDLY USES that briefcase and I still use the purse!

Coach has a forever policy that if your DW takes that purse to a Coach store, pays the shipping, they will redo any worn edges, shoulder straps etc FOR FREE. I bought my girls their first Coach bags (purses guys) when they were 12 at an outlet. They still have them (now they are 25 and 24 yrs old) and use daily.
This is one of the best companies I have ever found. The guarantee never runs out.

AND, as icing on the cake, the purses came with a leather label that has the matching leather number on it - they APOLOGIZED that they did not have enough to completely redo my Briefcase when I sent it in before gifting it to DD#1, and asked it they could use almost identical leather for the free patching/fix. Of course I said yes and I cannot spot it on the briefcase.

So KUDOS to you for finding it and giving it to her. My purse looks fantastic. They sell conditioner that will fix DW's new Coach purse.

My wife found some leather once at a thrift store. I was pretty excited. I made mocs out of it. Showed them off to my friend before a rendezvous. He said I looked like a Smurf. I thought they were black. Partially colorblind.

Bhohahaha....That's funny....I can relate....

I used to take my deer hides to a big Tannery in Hartford Wi....W.B. Place...closed up now...
Would take 10 or how ever many deer hides I had.... up for tanning....

Then look thru the "$2 buck scrap bags".......Mostly deer hides...

Some good stuff in them....but was hard to find big enough pieces.....as some was dyed leather...(They made and sold a lot of leathers)

Had a nice big piece of "kinda pinkish' color....used it to line knife sheaths and dividers inside the bags....

Was hard to make a shoulder strap...had to sew piece short pieces together.....and was stretch-ie ....Oh well.
