Here's a story I ran across this morning. A 55 year old man awoke with serious breathing difficulties, and performed a tracheotomy on himself! By the way, the article does not indicate any medical training in his past.

What do y'all think?

The way I took it he had throat cancer and had it done before. He still had more on the ball than me. I hope I am never in a position where I would have to make that decision. I'm like most people I wouldn't know what I would do unless it happened to me.

Good point. I wonder if his first tracheotomy was done by paramedics while he was awake? Might remember how that feels, compared to suffocating... I guess you do what you need to do or die trying.

When it comes to survival a person can go to extraordinary lengths to live. What about the guy in Utah(?) who was hiking and got his hand caught. Was there for several days...finally got out by cutting of his own hand, using a Swiss Army Knife (if I recall right).
