A thanks to the ones that survived it and lived to be our fathers and grandfathers.

And a special thanks to the ones that did not survive it. The days we are living in should give us a special regard for what they preserved for us, at least until now.

My father went ashore on June 6, 1944. He saw those to his left and his right fall to enemy action. Were he here today, he would tell you to honor both the living and the dead because, in the final analysis, only a matter of inches separated one from the other.
