Hey everybody,
I am not new to the outdoors, just new to this site. I probably won't be posting too much since I am a busy military man and don't have as much time to sit at the computer as I would like. I am an Alaskan but the military decided I should take a few years to explore Okinawa. It is soooo hard being stuck on a subtropical island surrounded by coral reefs. So many new and interesting bugs to be bitten by. *Snorkeling bug, SCUBA diving bug, hiking bug...* Any way, I am not an expert in the ways of the wild but I do know some about survival. Look forward to hearing from most of you.(I noticed from other posts that I will be hearing from some of you whether I like it or not):p

klkak: Some of these guys already have strong opinions about us Alaskans. If they find out that I know you it might cause me problems. Maybe I already said to much....

Oh, they like Alaskans in spite of ourselves.

Enjoy Okinawa. I never went there, but spent time in Japan. Interesting place... to say the least! Welcome to the forum.

Thanks Aurelius95. Interesting is definitely one of the words I would use to describe this place. I hear most of the other words I would use are frowned upon on this site.

What part of Alaska? Your avatar looks it was taken at the Sealife Center down at Seward.

Na, the pic is from Okinawa. My boy thought the turtle was going to eat him. Had to explain to him that people eat turtles and that we ate so many that we have to protect them now so they will still be around when he grows up. His next question was (of course) "Can I eat one?" That's the old survival spirit.
I lived in buzzard gulch in high school and before I joined the military. That place keeps on getting bigger and creeping further back up the valley. It was a great place to get out of on the weekends. So much wilderness near by to explore.
