Hello all. Been lurking here for months and finally signed up. I tend to view posts WAY back into the archives and completely exhaust the search function before I join.
Really like it here and have picked up a LOT of knowledge. I'm a CPA and the CFO of a company, but country boy at heart. I hunt and have a bass boat that's one year older than my self. I'm 36 BTW. I have a 5 yr old son that graduates the 4th grade 5/19/08 and like my Dad with me, I take him everywhere. He's a genius and very atheletic and he LOVES the woods.
My goal for 2008 was to spend less than $100 on store bought meat this year. I found a freezer on craigslist for $40 and when I went to pick it up, the guy couldn't find the cord. He apologized and said I could have it for free if I hauled it off. Having an electrical background I fixed it. It's pretty good and stocked with crappie, bluegill and a few striped bass.
I also took my first turkey with a bow about a week ago. The coolest part was MY SON called him in. I've got maybe 3 deer steaks left from deer season and some deer jerky I dehydrated myself. My wife doesn't eat meat so I only have to have enough meat for my son and I.
I always make sure he is present when I field dress or filet fish. I breast the turkeys myself and filet fish myself, but after field dressing a deer I do take them to a processor. He loves it. His biggest love has to be camping. When he was real little I started him off in the back yard. Moved up to camp grounds and rented the $7 slot. Now we still go to large state parks but we camp out in what they call the primitive section. No elec hookup or an RV parked next to your tent. We really enjoy our time together.
My wife has a women only Church function this weekend so my truck is packed here at the office and we're heading out this evening. Bad T-storms in forecast, but it happens so he needs to get used to it in case he has to draw on this when he's older.
I know this was long but it said tell us about yourself and that's about all of me. Hope to contribute to the forum.
THanks
Brad
