I'm interested in seeing some of your work.
Bought a book about knapping several years ago and never have tried it.

Flint River Honey is a very nice raw stone to work with, but seems to be limited to my location. Also "chocolate swirl" from the same location, is very workable raw. I don't know why my mentor gives this stuff away like it's trash. I've made some very nice points from both kinds, and from what I can tell it doesn't need to be heated, which is a rare quality for stone in this area. Most of our stuff is chert which can be pretty crumbly, or low quality jasper, or even coral, which really need to be heated.

For my money it would be tachylite (or something very much like it which I find in northern california) for durability and obsidian (most of the stuff I've worked has been sourced from southern oregon and northern california I beleive) for pleasant workability.

Glass is also quite high on the easy and consistent workability scale.

I used an ishi stick made with a copper nail on the end of a dowel rod. Plus various safety equipment.
