View Full Version : This is starting to become a pain

Often times I will be going through some threads, posting and whatnot. Then I will come across an image, but instead of the image I have a message that tells me that I need to be logged in to see images. I go up top, and I am logged in. Check PM's, post a few comments and go back, but still has the message.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Yes. I have.

I don't know the answer. I saw it one time last week and didn't pay much attention to it. If it happens to me again I'll play with it.

Have had it happen....as a matter of fact I did have it happen on one of my posted pic's....don't recall the thread, now.
But some one brought it up......so I went back and reloaded the pic's from photobucket, and they worked.....?

thanks Rick.

That's odd, too, Hunter. For me, its completely random. Even in the same thread, i can see some images, but others give me the message. It is weird.

I've seen it a couple of times and haven't got any clue as to what causes it.

Happens here too. Could it be a timed-out issue?

IT is a mod I installed on the forum that hides images from guests. Why it would misfire sometimes I don't know.

The problem is this: Google doesn't like a lot of images, this site is supported by ads from Google. If someone posts an image that is say, pg13, that we'd all think is okay, Google might dislike that image, and then I get in trouble for running their ads on a page with a distasteful image on it.

Since I can't moderate every post, or go back and reread every post and make sure they're all clean. The easiest solution is to just turn off images for guests. So only logged in members should be able to see images in threads.

Problem is, it isn't a perfect mod, it is a little buggy. I think it has to do with thread caching issues internally in the software. But, the end result is sometimes guests will see images, and sometimes logged in users will not.

Hey Chris, thanks for the info! It all makes sense and thinking about it, it seems pretty simple. I wonder why that Rick feller couldn't figure it out! :eyepoke:

Apparently, someone who's name won't get mentioned (Natertot) missed the whole point about the ban button. I'll bet he tries to register again.

Nater that has never happened to me. I think that happens to people in the Pre Banning stages:smartass:

I'm starting to get this issue for at least the last two days.

I also have the issue that very often the new posts indicator doesn't go away when I view threads. I think I mostly notice it when my post is the last in the thread/forum.

For the "guests cannot see images...."message - if it is in green, put your cursor on it and left click you mouse. You will be able to see the image.

When one of the mods runs across one, we can fix it but it doesn't always take.
