I recently came by a couple of blades, and I need to re-make the sheath for them.
The blades are carbon steel, made from one solid piece of steel, with traditional wrapping on the handle. That will soon be replaced. I'm looking for material sources to make a standard sheath like you get on most knives nowadays, that black canvas material. As I'm not sure what exactly it is, or where to get it, I am looking for suggestions.

Here's an image of the knife:

And here's the knife and sheath:

Have you concidered Kevlar or Aramid fibers?

I supply the City of Calgary all their cutting knives for their Zamboni's at the arena's. The Kevlar sheaths they come in new or after a sharpening are top notch and very durable. Safety is their primary concern in dealing with razor sharp 8' knives.

Pretty much standard in the industry.

You may want to try a paracord wrap on the hard plastic sheath that came with the knife.
