Thanks, Rick. Good info.

I've been fortunate to have many canned items last several YEARS beyond the dates suggested in the article. When opened, they were as safe, "fresh," and similar in taste to those I had purchased just days before. In my experience, other than for the obvious (fresh meat, fresh fish, fresh fruit/veggies, dairy and bakery) I've found that cereals are always the first things to go bad or stale.

We rest our case, Randy.

Good stuff........I came for a long line of saving canned goods waaaay longer than good sense dictates.
I try not to eat "sniffed food".....as in "smell this, does it smell alright to you?........Not anymore it doesn't.

Guess it depends how hungry you are....as in "Have some of my purple berries, haven't got sick once, probably keep us both alive....."
Line from "Wooden Ships".....Crosby, Sills, Nash and Young....and Jefferson Airplane/others

I just finished a jar of Smuckers All Natural Peanut Butter that was two years past the expiration date. Tasted fine. Haven't noticed any ill effects.

In other news.....

A retired Submarine Sailor was seen chasing cars, eating grass out of people's yards and shouting "more brains".

*chuckle* I bought a jar of that stuff a few weeks ago. My dogs loved it. I didn't. You should have seen them smacking away - I've never seen them take as long to eat anything else, and they're familiar with all kinds of people food.

I'm a Skippy Peanut Butter fan, and if I ever again feel the need for the natural variety, I'll make it myself.

I used to eat a lot of Jiff, but like the Smuckers too. No sugar in the Smuckers.

When in doubt, toss in out. That's my motto. Of course I live by the two basic food groups...sweets and preservatives. But that's just me.
