Hope everyones having a great spring!

Gills are spawning. A week of staking out a bed of nice sized gills, finally paid off last week. I caught 100 Bluegill in 4 days (the place I go has a limit of 25 per-day). I only live 1/2 mile from the lake. Three of the 4 days I was home within an hour! The slow day (day four) I was there 3 hours cathing the large females in the 3rd picture. The 4th day the males could be seen but had quit biting again. So I cast off on the deep side of the bed and waited. Here's the highlights.

Pictures never do fish size justice. These are 5-9" long.

Ken.... good to hear from ya!

A little over 9 pounds of gill fillets in total. The musky was taken direcly to a friend of mine who's a taxidermest. I've never taxied any fish (except for out of the water....lol)

Enjoy the gills! Grill or pan-fry?

That musky mounted on your wall will bring back lots of fun memories.

Thinking of trying (again) this summer to land my dream trophy shark.

That's a nice mess of fish. The older I get the less and less I like fresh water fish but I've sure downed a bunch of blue gill and red ear in my younger days. Fried fish, hush puppies, fresh onion. Man, that was some good chow.

I love bluegills, sunfish and crappie. Some of the best eating in my opinion.

Nice looking bunch of gills there Ted. I used to fish for gills alot up on the Mississippi around Lansing Iowa when I was living up north. Since I moved down here I've become more of a crappie fisherman. Don't take me wrong though. There isn't a thing wrong with a good mess of gills. Crappies just easier to find in this area.

Is your friend going to skin mount the muskie?

Most taxidermists will use a fiberglass mold anymore. easier and more durable. you just take a bunch of pictures and measurements and then let the fish go to grow.
