Like the title states, my horse sat back on his lead rope teathered to the hitchin post. He was fine, a fine horse indeed. Next thing I knew the bull got out and I found myself without a lead rope. Here is what I came up with. It is 6 strands of 3/16 poly rope braided together, it allows a little stretch for my fine steed! The other unique thing about it is the clasp, Not normally used for horses, but I am tired of 2 handed clasps. This should help out alot around here. The thumb clasp combined with the stretch of the poly braid is just what I wanted, but couldn't buy.

I grew up with horses but, I'd need a picture for the connect. Mine were single hand clasps with a 3/4 nylon rope.

I'd love to see the clasp you are referring to, you cannot do it with one hand with my fingers.

That will make a dandy lead rope. I wonder if a spring loaded caribiner would work as a one handed clasp.

I could draw a picture. I'll see what I can find. It's easier and more secure than what you're using.

Here is what I had been using and most horse people use.

Thanks Randy, I will look around, I didn't save a dime...you can buy a china rope for 10 bucks. I had the clasp and spent 15 on the 3/16" rope. I have some left over, but the usual ropes don't have any stretch. My horse broke the rope, not the clasp. Just a quick pull and snap....he is trained to give to resistance. The other task was the bull, It ain't fun messsin around with a clasp with this guy! Meet "Slippery Hollows Thunderstorm".

I use the same snaps on my gates, and leads. When tying a horse up we use the australian slip ties, (clinton anderson). We have used them for appox. 7 years now and have not had a broken lead rope since.

Thanks HighHawk, I will look into them.

I used to used one of these, it's very similar action to a carabiner. One handed use.
