Here's an idea. Several of us have disscussed carrying trash bags as a survival item. Leaving out the obvious "Raincoat" how many uses can you come up with for trash bags? Inquiring minds want to know! ;>)

Stuff it with leaves or cattail fluff to lay on so you have something between you and the cold ground, or use as a pillow.

you can keep your gear in it, use it to better waterproof your shelter.

Use an orange bag instead of black, then it's a high visibility signaling device, spread it out on the ground, wave it in the air, or tie it to a branch and wave it like a flag.

You can take the bag and wrap it around a leafy tree branch and tie the open end shut with cordage so as to make a transpiration device.

I will not even list the number of things and parts of my body i can waterproof using a plastic bag. Then there is transpiration bag, solar still, melt snow in the sun for drinking(avoid the yellow snow, it's not lemonade), flotation device, add a little vasoline and you have a patch for a sucking chest wound, cut a strip and use as eye protection from sand etc., put a window in your shelter. how many more do you want?
By the way, I always have a mil. std. poncho in my kit.

I started this thread almost 2 years ago & it didn't do as well as I thought it would have; later I came up with the "Multi-use items" sticky...it did a lot better.:cool2:
I was intrigued by the sutures use one member came up with. Here's the Multi-Use thread.

Besides all listed, blivits, I always used the smaller cheapo type to put over my boots to slide my foot into knee high rubber boots. Easy on & off.
