I am taking a bus trip next week and was would like to have a quick, simple kit in my carry on bag. Any suggestions?

First aid kit, car escape tool, dust masks, torch(flashlight?), pocket knife, paracord, small tarp or emergency blanket, cereal bars, water. Other will probably add to this.

+1 for what Winnie said... if i were to change anything, i'd go with a multi tool instead of basic pocket knife.

I have a ammo pouch that is just big enough to hold a foil survival blanket, matches, lighter, multitool, compass, fishing kit, small flashlight and some water purification tablets. It hangs on my side over my belt, and stays flat to my side when worn. There is no room for food but for a small pouch, it contains a large part of the essentials for survival. If you are riding on a bus, you can carry food and water in a bag. MOst busses should already have a first aid kit I would think!

Excellent start;
I would add lighter,Ferro rod, small pack of tissue, Carmex lip balm, disposable poncho.......

Actually this sounds like our "go to large flea market/sales" bag.....for this we add a folding back pack, to be used if necessary.

It is very difficult to have a little BOB with everything in it. One can "another good idea" to a backpack, and I speak from personal experience. :-)
A lighter and some strike antwhere matches are good. Tiny flashlight. Whistle. Buy a 1" wide roll of duct/gorilla tape; you can make repairs on the road and its spiffy fire tender. A few bandaids, and, perhaps, a bit of antibiotic cream. Some cord; paracord is nice, but truely a bit bulky.
That little multi-tool is nice to have; I have a little Gerber in my pouch that is not as long as my index finger.
In shoulder bag, you can carry that poncho, food, water, and the little BOB.
Not comprehensive, but I hope I've helped with your project.
Have a great trip!

Never know what you might find in a flea market, and to prevent having to carry it back to the truck....expends your range as well....LOL
In a hiking pack, also hold fire tinder, mushrooms, fat wood, flint rocks, antler sheds or any thing else you might pick up along your way......

OMG Hunter! I want one!! <3 LOL. Wherever did you get it? I will surely have to buy one.
Thanks guys for the advice. Pretty much what I had figured, not as much as I had thought (you know those of us less experienced pack everything under the sun) :tank: I always have a blast on these trips, and always meet the most interesting people (I always carry a knife on me for that very reason too).

I've had a few of those "packs in a pocket" (jackets too). They come in handy.

Depending on which layover bus stations you will be stopping at, you may want to add a 9MM semi auto to the list!

I assume from the original post this is a multi-day trip, you've checked some luggage and are asking what shgould go in your carry-on.

In this situation, the carry-on IS your BOB or GHB. All of the suggestions above work, but if you change the way you think of the bag all you need to worry about is what you want if nothing goes wrong, like a good book to read.

things NOT to take in your bob..

BIG BLADES such as machetes or swords. If they see it or even suspect you will get yanked.

long guns. see above =)

booze in glass bottles.

explosives. (I KNOW there is someone out there saying "I could sneak in a small device and protect myself with it.") just don't...please!

a shovel strapped to the outside of the bag. Use a folding shovel that can be put inside. this might be ok.

Be careful about fuel for stoves like sternos and ....umm stove fuel? They are flammable and will get you yanked.

Fishing poles. think about it.....ok?

Be aware of gun laws even for the bus and the area you are traveling in. If it is in your bag it is considered a CONCEALED WEAPON. Got your concealed weapon permit? no? then don't do it. Yes? check the laws of where you are, where your going and where your traveling thru. If everything does not line up..then don't do it.

Are you sure the C4 will get her pulled? 'Cause just last week I carried a couple of pounds on a bus and the driver just asked if I knew where she could get some. Seems like everyone these days is looking for C4.

I dont undestand the purpose of this.
I can't put stuff in my bad if it's packed in a bag. however you could take the bag with you incase you need another bag I guess....

But... idk, i've never seen omething like this before.

I think the idea of a bag in a bag is that it would fit inside a fanny-pack (or waist-pouch for all you australians who find "fannypack" too silly) along with some minor "just-in-case" supplies like a small knife, poncho, paracord, firestarter, etc. The reason for having it is to increase your storage space because mini-BOBs tend to be packed really tightly and a pain to use if or when it is needed, so it's nice to be able to dump the contents out of your altoids tin or whatever micro-container is jam-packed with goodies, and put them into something a bit more spacious. You can also carry other survival items if you end up needing to say... keep tinder or firewood dry, or want to save food or water for later.

I really ought to get one of those bags... any favorite models guys?

Guess it does seem kinda silly to carry a bag, in my bag....LOL....But I do get distracted picking mushrooms or nuts as I'm wondering around, as well as carrying hunting clothes when the day warms up.....or even deploying the second bag as a way to carry out trash I find in the woods......This is really a pet peeve.

You can get by with a plastic grocery bag, but they are not as cool as these fold down into them selves bags.

Not silly at all. Never know when you're gonna find "stuff". When I lived in the PNW I had a hooded rain jacket that had a zippered chest pocket that was used to stuff the jacket inside itself - handy as all get out for that area.

The orange bag has belt loops, used to carry it on my belt, and keep some small stuff in it......but hunting in Wyoming, would be 30-40 early in the morning.....by 10:00 AM, may be 80.....so deploy the bag, load coats, bibs etc into the bag, and carry till 5-6 when it started cooling down....then get re-dressed in the carried warm clothes.....works well.

Well, when you start out, you don't really need the bag. But if you get unexpected things going on, having a light backpack is a good idea, eh?

That's all they're for. It's a collapsible shopping bag that fits in your pocket, purse, or fastens to your belt. A great idea, all around.

We live in the "just in case" world, don't we?:boxer:
