If they became aggressive....I would start throwing a bunch of crap at them....trust me....there would be a lot of crap to through.

I would have had to throw my shorts away. Can you imagine what that ol' silver back would have done to anybody who got out of line?

Amazing video... Its a shame the post was tainted with a .22 reference. Almost didnt look at the video, figured it was a troll post at first.

BEAUTIFUL! Imagine, dedicating your life to researching and understanding these creatures, to have them randomly accept you like that?

I can't imagine why I'd have a .22 there. What a great experience.

Those gorillas were friendlier than most people you could meet in a large city, so why on earth would you want to shoot them with a .22?

Echo2

It would be a awesome video to show folks....but I would have the same reaction to having a grizzly walk into camp. They look to be "gentle".....but that thing could rip your arm off and beat everyone else to death with it.

I would be crapping bricks....and hoping it didn't get excited at the smell of poo.

These things are wild animals.....big a$$ wild animals.

So much for leaving the bananas on the back porch for ripening.

It was a joke........Sheesh.

Oh no, too late now! If a big ole silver back gorilla walked up on your front porch and started beating his chest, you would probabaly shoot him with your little pink .22, and you know it. So don't come off as Mr little innocent now:whistling:

I really surprised that there weren't more references to caliber, sight picture MOA etc Blah, blah, blah....as I does seem to me that most scary situations that we find ourselves in seem to be dealt with by blowing it away with the most popular firearm De Jure......which is equally silly......
Ain't the interweb great!

So for those offended, and need it pointed out.....Sheesh.....It was a joke....Bazinga!

So where does a 500 pound gorilla sleep.........?

Leave it in the friggin' tent, and grab yer camera!!!! Their body language communicates NO threat, only peaceful "pardon me, pardon me" intent (particularly the big Silverback in the opening "scene")

The similarity between human and gorilla body-language is amazing -- no, wait -- completely understandable.

-- Daniel (who admits to possibly having a great ape 'way back in his genetic code) Nighteyes

PS: In keeping with the joke I might perceive here, should this Ape-Human encounter "Go South" on me, I think I'd be more likely to grasp said .22 by the barrel and use it like a club...

PETA is useless - anyone - including those with common sense - are on their threat list. The video was amazing and if the unfortunate should happen, I'd be screwed. I doubt a .22 would be effective at all - even as a club. That big guy would just grab it and beat me with it!

If you were an animal person, that would be the ultimate experiance.
No worse than jumping from a plane? He lived and now has the story forever, and on film.
Who knows how much time with gorillas that he had prior to the video? Personally I wish I could have sat there like he did, but I really doubt it. LOL

That is a well established camp that is visited regularly by the gorillas on a regular basis. Those same gorillas are used to these same human groups visiting them in the bush.

Still pretty amazing experience.

You should check out the brochure for that camp in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forrest. When he says we came out of our camp errr... tent. You really have to look at the accommodations to see why he had a difficult time with his choice of words.

Did anyone notice the bird that sounds a lot like a Chuck-wills-widow singing in the background of the video starting at 2:25? I did a search for members of the nightjar family that occur in Bwindi and of the 16 species I only found one that had recordings available and that sounded like this one. Freckled Nightjar Caprimulgus tristigma.

Aye. And that place was paved. It was a park. I would have tried grooming back - keeping a close peripheral watch on the silver back. Gorillas don't normally attack without a warning and I most definitely know how to be submissive to a guy like that.
