Went out with friends of mine to catch the auroras which were forcasted to be active. They weren't as active as I wished they were, but any night with the lights is a good night. For some reason, I'm still getting "noise" on my camera. Blarg!

Can you change the ISO setting on your camera? If you can......the higher the setting, the higher the ability to take pictures in low light....but the higher the noise. If you can - try a lower ISO setting and longer exposure.

Love the pics just the way they are though.

It’s hard to avoid noise and still have reasonably short shutter speeds. Pleiades and Jupiter together in the south east is nice this time of year and I got some pics of that. Sure wish I had the Aurora to play with. When we moved south being able to see the sky at night was one of our major requirements.

I think you have to hit the exposure dead on with the camera. I find changing it with a photo program adds to the problem.

Yep, I changed my ISO from 400 to 200 and left my exposure at 15 seconds, the highest it will go. Yay, much clearer. I went out on my porch and saw they were still going so stepped off my porch and took some more!

I don't use any photo editing program other then Irfanview to resize and stick my name on them.

Waaaaa,,,,I want one of those.

Back in the early 20th century, the auroras were seen in southern Georgia. My parents told me about it and when I was interviewed for a book a few years ago, the author mentioned it in his book - his parents saw it. I've also heard about it on the radio - one thing was constant. Everyone thought the world was coming to an end. I'd say there's no chance I'll ever see them but I keep ending up in places I never intended to go, so I won't.

saw them here in the PNW once, only grey tones though for a brief spell. Seeing them in full colour is on my bucket list, one day I will make it farther north at the right time of year.

You never know, anything is possible.

Well if your family ever wants to take an Alaskan vacation, I make a great tour guide lol.

Thanks for the pictures

Great pics. We rarely see them down here 'cause the cloud cover.
